江苏省戏剧学校坐落在六朝古都南京的东南隅，南接十里秦淮，北望巍巍钟山，东近明宫遗址，西临郑和公园，是隶属江苏省文化厅的国家级重点中等艺术学校，是全省培养艺术人才的摇篮。几十年来，学校为江苏和全国培养输送了大批艺术人才，其中不少人已成为全省乃至全国有影响的明星和艺术家，为文化艺术事业的繁荣和发展作出了巨大贡献。1995年，学校被文化部、人事部授予“全国文化先进单位”称号。2000、2004年，学校连续两次被国家教育部确定为国家级重点学校，2000年、2002年、2004年，连续三次被授予“江苏省文明单位”荣誉称号，2001年与2003年，连续两次被评为“江苏省文化系统先进集体”。1999年以来，连续六年在目标管理考核中被江苏省文化厅评为优秀等级单位。

学校创建于1956年，建校初期设京剧、昆剧、锡剧、扬剧、话剧、戏剧文学、戏剧导演、舞蹈、音乐、舞美等专业。1959年，学校曾升格为大专性质的江苏戏曲学院，后因贯彻八字方针，复改为中专性质的江苏戏曲学院。1969年12月，与南京艺术学院、南京师范学院音乐、美术系合并为江苏省革命文艺学校。1977年10月，恢复江苏省戏剧学校建制，设京剧、昆剧、锡剧、扬剧、编导、舞美、歌话剧等专业，后又增设越剧专业，一个实验京剧团。京、昆表演专业和舞蹈专业招收小学生，学制为七年和六年，话剧、编导、戏曲音乐等招收高中生，学制二年，其他招收初中生，学制三至五年。1984年起，与剧团联合招生，改“统招统分”为定向培养。1993年起，学校根据社会对艺术人才需求的变化，调整专业设置，先后增设了艺术教育、艺术设计、影视表演、音乐表演、群众文化艺术等专业，与此同时，学校努力提高办学层次，1997年，与南京艺术学院联合开办了大专班，开设戏剧文学、音乐教育、美术教育专业，学制为二年和五年。2000年起，学校积极试办五年制高职教育，开设了7个高职专业，使学校从过去单一的戏剧学校发展成为一所多门类、多层次的综合性艺术学校。2003年11月，为了进一步发展艺术职业教育，根据江苏省文化厅决定，江苏省文化学校与江苏省戏剧学校合并，并积极筹建江苏省艺术高等职业学校。两校合并后，目前在校生人数达到1721人，大专层次的学生已占全校学生总数的69%。

随着办学规模的扩大，学校的办学条件不断改善。学校现有长白街、百水桥、天目湖三个校区，占地面积46620 M2，教学、生活用房 30141M2 。有大批戏曲、舞蹈专业专用的排练厅和教戏课堂，有可供数百名学生练琴、作画的琴房、画室以及音乐厅和美术馆，还拥有现代化的微机房、语音室和可容纳500名观众的实验剧场。学校图书馆藏书7万余册。

学校的师资力量雄厚，现有专任教师182名，具有中、高级以上职称的教师占 %以上，并有一批国家一、二级演员和在全国享有盛名的学者和表演艺术家。近几年，学校从艺术团体和高等艺术院校吸收了一批优秀演员、毕业生充实教师队伍，形成了一支素质较高、数量足够、专业齐全、结构合理的师资队伍。

学校积极推进素质教育，拓展教育创新，深化教育教学改革，教育教学质量不断提高，产学研结合取得了丰硕成果。据统计，近六年，学校师生在省级以上艺术及教育教学比赛中获奖达多人次，其中有国家文华奖、中国戏剧节奖、小梅花奖金奖、红梅奖金奖、“蚁力神杯”全国戏曲戏剧大赛一等奖等。2000年以来，在校学生参加了第六届世界华商大会开幕式、第六届中国艺术节、上海APEC会议欢迎晚会、第十届全运会开幕式等许多重大活动，并赴澳门地区和日本演出。学校毕业生当年就业率连续多年均在90%以上，受到了用人单位的一致好评。

Survey of Jiangsu Drama School

The Jiangsu Drama School is located at the south-east corner of the ancient capital of six dynasties-- Nanjing，which connects the Ten-Miles- Qinhuai in the south，gazes out at the towering Zhongshan Mountain in the north，nears the ruin of Ming dynasty’s palace in the east and borders on the Zhenghe park in the west. It is a key secondary art school of country grade which is under the juridicion of the Jiangsu Culture Department, and a cradle of training art and acting talents in whole province. Dozens years，it had fosterd and provided Jiangsu and whole country batch artistic talents, and quite a few persons of them have become effective stars and artists in whole province and even in the whole country. It had made tremendous contribution for prosperity and development of the cause of culture and art. In 1995, it was conferred the title “Cultural Advanced Collective of Whole Country” by national Ministry of Culture and Personnel Ministry. In 2000 and 2004，the school was defined as key school of country grade by Education Ministry. In 2000, 2002,and 2004，it was awarded “Jiangsu Well-Educated Unit ”honour name for three times running. In 2001 and 2003,it was elected an advanced collective in provincial cultural system and since 1999, it was elected an outstanding unit for six years running in annual assessment of object management of Provincial Culture Department.

The school was founded in 1956，in which Beijing opera, Kunqu opera, Wuxi opera, Yangzhou opera, Shaoxin opera, drama, dramatic writing, dramatic directing, dance, music, stage art and so on specialties were established at the early days. In 1959，the school promoted to the Jiangsu Traditional Opera Academy once upon a time, which is a junior college. As a result of implement the Eight characters guiding principle，it revised its nature to a key secondary art school later. In December of 1969，Together with Nanjing Arts Institute, the Music Department and the Art Department of Nanjing Normal University, the school was combined into the Jiangsu Revolutionary Literature and Art School. In October of 1977，the organizational system of Jiangsu drama School was resumed. Beijing opera, Kunqu opera, Wuxi opera, Yangzhou opera, playwriting & directing, stage art, song & dance drama and so on specialities were established then. Shaoxing opera speciality and a campus Beijing opera troupe was added later. Beijing opera, Kunqu opera and dance specialities recruited pupils and their length of schooling were 7 years and 6 years respectively. Drama, playwriting & directing, traditional opera music and so on specialities took in senior high school students，and their length of schooling were 2 years. Other specialities took in junior high school students，and their length of schooling were 3 to 5 years. Since 1984，it enrolled new students jointly with opera troupes，transforming from “Enlisting together and distributing together” to fostering directionally. From 1993，according to the changes in the demand of society to the artistic talented persons，it had been adjusting specialty setting and added art education, art design, movie and video performance, music performance, mass literature and art, etc early or late. Meanwhile，it made an effort to lift the administrative levels of running a school. In 1997，it started the junior college team together with Nanjing Arts Institute，setting up dramatic writing, music education, fine arts education, which educational system was 2 years and 5 years respectively. Since 2000，it has been actively running 5 years’ high vocational education. It has set up 7 specialties，and has developed from former unitary drama school into a multi-category, multi-layer, synthetic art school. In November of 2003, for the sake of further development of art vocational education, according to the decision made by Jiangsu Provincial Culture Department, Jiangsu Culture School and Jiangsu Drama School were amalgamated. And from then on, Jiangsu High Vocational School of Art has been being actively prepared to constructed. After the combination of two school, the students being at school are more than 1721, among which 69% of students are junior college students.

In the wake of the enlargement of scale for running a school，it’s condition for running a school continuously improved. The school now has three branch schools which are in Changbaijie street, Baishuiqiao, and Tianmuhu Town,totaly covered an area of 46620 square meters. It has the houses for teaching and living of over 30141 square meters. There are number of rehearses halls and tutoring rooms which are for the use of traditional drama and dance specialty only; there are music chambers, painting studios, an concert hall and an art gallery which may accommodate several hundred students to practice the music instruments or to paint; it also possesses modernized computer house, phonetic studio and an experimental theater which may accommodate 500 audiences. The school’s library collects more than seventy thousand books.

The school has rich teacher resources, existing full-time teachers are over 180, % of teachers have middle or high ranking title of a professional post, and there are a lot of natinal first, second grade performers as well as scholars and performing artists who enjoy great reputation in whole country. In recent years, it also introduced a lot of excellent actors, actresses and graduates from the artistic groups and the higher educational institutions of art respectively, to form a troop of teachers with higher quality, sufficient quantity, complete specialties and reasonable organization.

The school positively carries forward quality education，spreads education innovation，deepens reform in education and teaching. The education quality is continuously lifted. The combination of production, study and research acquires plentiful and substantial fruit. On the grounds of statistics，more than 140 teachers and students won the prizes on provincial competitions and other higher grade competitions in art, education and teaching, such as the National Wenhua Award, the Golden Award in China Drama Festival, the Golden Award of Little Plum Prize, the Golden Award of Red Plum Prize, the first prize in the National Yilishen Cup Drama Competition, etc. Since 2000，students have attended the inauguration of The Sixth World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention, The Sixth China Art Festival, the greeting soiree of Shanghai APEC Meeting, the inauguration of The Tenth National Games of The People’s Republic of China and many important activities. Students have also traveled to Macao and Japan to perform. The rate of taking up an occupation of graduates in those years is over 90% for many years successively，and the school was subjected to the unanimous high opinion of the employing unit.

Impregnable pass and endless way are so strong just like Iron-made for surmounting, but now we shall step over again from the very beginning. At present, under the guidance of the magnificent goal of building cultural great province, all the teaching staffs of the Jiangsu Drama School are uniting as one, being eager to make progress, wresting furiously and exerting themselves in the struggle of running the Jiangsu Drama School to be a first rate art school.
